Kylmäluoma 4525
Kylmäluoma angling permit area is located in Kylmäluoma Hiking Area in the north-eastern part of the municipality of Taivalkoski. The area consists of beautiful pine ridges and ancient forests, marshes and open lakes. A high-quality camping area has numerous top-tier cabins and a visitor centre with cafe and restaurant services.
Kylmäluoma permit area consists of Lake Iso-Pajuluoma which is stocked with salmonids and is located right next to the camping area. The main catch is rainbow trout. You do not have to venture far from the shore to find good fishing spots!
Other waters in Kylmäluoma Hiking Area belong to a permit area called Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu 5411. Please note that Lake Katkeimanlampi is no longer part of Kylmäluoma permit area. Map on this page will be updated as soon as possible.

In Kylmäluoma angling permit area, the customer can choose between a validity period of 3 hours or 24 hours. The angling permit prices are as follows:

Anglers under 18 years of age pay half price.
Anglers under 15 years of age who are fishing with an adult can fish under the adult's angling permit with the same catch quota. In other words, they do not require a separate angling permit.
A family may purchase a family permit, which costs twice as much and has a fishing quota twice as large as an individual angling permit. A family consists of children under 18 years of age and their parents/legal guardians as well as married and common-law couples.
In addition, an angling permit for Kylmäluoma also grants the right to fish in other waters of Kylmäluoma Hiking Area, not just Lake Iso-Pajuluoma. Please see permit terms for more information.

Other waters located in Kylmäluoma Hiking Area, such as Lake Kylmäluoma, belong to a permit area 5411 Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. Please see below for more information about when the angling permit 4525 is valid also in these other waters.
When do you need a permit?
All visitors fishing in Lake Iso-Pajuluoma must obtain the Kylmäluoma angling permit 4525. This applies also to hook and line fishing and ice fishing. The decision on restricting general fishing rights was issued by the Lapland ELY Centre.
General fishing rights apply to other waters in Kylmäluoma Hiking Area. This means that you do not need to pay the fisheries management fee or purchase an angling permit for hook and line fishing or ice fishing with one rod in these pond and lake waters. Lure fishing with one (1) rod is also permitted in these pond and lake waters for persons who have paid the fisheries management fee or who are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age or have reached the age of 65 or more by 31 December 2023.
If you intend to fish with several rods in the waters of Kylmäluoma Hiking Area (other than Lake Iso-Pajuluoma), you must purchase Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu angling permit 5411. Another option is to purchase Kylmäluoma angling permit 4525, which allows you to fish with several rods both in Lake Iso-Pajuluoma and in the other waters of the hiking area.
Fishing gear and bait
An angler may use one (1) rod with one line when fishing from the shore or from an anchored boat.
When trolling or fly fishing from a rowboat and when fishing from the ice, an angler can use a maximum of two (2) rods, each of them with one line.
The rod must be in the angler’s hand or within reach at all times (no more than 2 metres away). The rod may not be left alone for fishing.
All types of artificial and natural bait may be used in the Kylmäluoma angling permit area.
Watercraft
Only electric outboard motors may be used in Lake Iso-Pajuluoma.
Catch quotas
The maximum number of fish that an angler may catch is indicated in the table below:

In this quota table, salmonid means trout, rainbow trout, char and grayling. There is no fishing quota limit for other fish species.
The 24-hour catch quota cannot be increased by purchasing several permits for the same 24-hour period.

The following catch sizes and protection periods for fish species are in effect for this permit area:

Services in the area
Kylmäluoma is a place where an angler can easily bring their whole family even if they don’t fish – there are plenty of fun activities ranging from a great network of hiking trails to tennis, badminton and mini golf.
You can also rent canoes and fishing gear at the camping area. The restaurant at the visitor centre offers great home-cooked food for order. The services also include guided canoe and fishing trips.

Tips
The best way to find fish is to rent a boat and take your trolling gear even though fishing from the shore can also be rewarding. During warm summer days, it’s a good idea to try using weights or sinkers. Fishing near the surface usually provides better results in colder waters.
Fisheries management
Lake Iso-Pajuluoma is stocked with catch-sized rainbow trout.
Some waters in the hiking area are stocked with one-summer old whitefish fry.
