Fishing brown trout on a wilderness lake in the middle of the realm of forest reindeers is possible at Lake Iso Koirajärvi, in Salamajärvi National Park. The scenic and clear-watered lake with its craggy beaches and islands is perfect for fishing and forgetting your daily worries.

Brown trout and whitefish have been stocked in the lake for the fishers to catch. In addition, it is possible to catch a large perch or pike.

There is a Koirajärvi-Heikinlampi combination permit available for the area. The combination permit allows fishing at Lake Koirajärvi and at Lake Heikinlampi which is located nearby.

Permits needed for fishing

In this permit area, you will need an angling permit for all fishing – including hook and line fishing and ice fishing.

You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023. However, the fisheries management fee is not required if you are hook and line fishing or ice fishing with only one rod. If you are hook and line fishing or ice fishing with multiple rods, you are required to purchase an angling permit and pay the fisheries management fee.

Fishing from the shore is prohibited on the southwest shore of Lake Koirajärvi. However, the fishing platform located on this shore is available for fishers with reduced mobility. The prohibition area is marked on the map of the permit area.

If you purchase the Koirajärvi-Heikinlampi combination permit, you can fish at Lake Koirajärvi and at Lake Heikinlampi. Heikinlampi is a part of the permit area 6567 Kaunislampi. The combination permit does not allow you to fish at the other waters of the 6567 permit area.

Services in the area

Koirajärvi is located in Salamajärvi National Park where you can find a network of trails with duckboards, campfire sites, lean-to shelters and a cooking shelter. For more information about services in the area, please see luontoon.fi.

Accessibility

On the southwest shore of Lake Iso Koirajärvi, there is a fishing platform where people with reduced mobility can fish. Otherwise, fishing is prohibited in this shore area. The area is marked on the permit area map.

Tips

At Koirajärvi, visitors are allowed to use their own boat by paying a fee to the Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut, which equals to the price of renting a boat. However, the use of outboard motors, including electric outboard motors, is prohibited. In addition to boats, the use of flotation device is allowed.
