Off-road traffic
Off-road traffic always requires the premission of the landowner. A snowmobile track permit is available for snowmobiling, which grants the right to use all of Metsähallitus' snowmobile tracks in Finland. For driving a snowmobile outside of the tracks and off-road driving during snow-free seasons, you always need a seperate off-road traffic permit. These permit applications are always handled on an individual basis.
Off-road traffic refers to the movement and use of motorized vehicles, such as snowmobiles or off-road vehicles, in areas outside of roads, such as forests, fields, ice, or fells. Off-road traffic offers exciting adventures in nature, but remember that moving in harmony with nature is always the key to a sustainable experience. There are several regulations related to off-road traffic aimed at protecting nature and preventing harm to traditional livelihoods and other nature users.
Metsähallitus is responsible for off-road traffic permits on state-owned lands.
