National track permit, season

In Finland, snowmobiles can be used on snowmobile routes and the snowmobile tracks maintained by municipalities and Metsähallitus.

You must pay to use Metsähallitus’s tracks, which are unofficial routes that are classified under the law as off-road terrain. In order to use these tracks, snowmobile users can apply to Metsähallitus for an individual track permit. With this permit, they may use their snowmobile on all tracks found on Metsähallitus’s track maps (in Finnish). You can often find pleasant resting spots, campfire areas and other services along the tracks.

Valid throughout the snowmobile season, from 1 October to 30 May.
