Track permit for home municipality

Track permit for home municipality

Track permits in your municipality of residence are always free of charge. Acquiring a permit requires strong identification.

In Finland, snowmobiles can be used on snowmobile routes and the snowmobile tracks maintained by municipalities and Metsähallitus.

You must pay to use Metsähallitus’s tracks, which are unofficial routes that are classified under the law as off-road terrain. In order to use these tracks, snowmobile users can apply to Metsähallitus for an individual track permit. With this track permit for their municipality of residence, they may use their snowmobile on all tracks in their municipality of residence found on Metsähallitus’s track maps (in Finnish). You can often find pleasant resting spots, campfire areas and other services along the tracks.
