Lake Matildanjärvi is a fishing site known for its natural beauty in Teijo National Park. Here you can enjoy the quiet of nature and familiarise yourself with the present-day life and craft traditions of the historic ironworks villages in the area.

Accessible fishing is available to anglers with reduced mobility. To make the most of you fishing trip, you can rent a boat at the Nature Centre by the lake. In addition to being home to traditional wild fish species, the lake is stocked with catch-sized rainbow trout. You can try your luck on a day trip or come for a longer stay. You can spend the night outdoors in the national park or in one of the charming accommodation options nearby.

What's new

Permits needed for fishing

In this permit area, you will need an angling permit for all fishing – including hook and line fishing and ice fishing.

You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023. However, the fisheries management fee is not required if you are hook and line fishing or ice fishing with only one rod. If you are hook and line fishing or ice fishing with multiple rods, you are required to purchase an angling permit and pay the fisheries management fee.

Services in the area

Anglers at Lake Matildanjärvi benefit from the comprehensive services of the Teijo National Park: campfire sites, lean-to shelters, caravan area, boat and cabin rentals and services and fishing structures designed specifically with physically disabled anglers in mind.

Teijon Kalamajat offers rental cabins on the south side of the lake. For hotel-level accommodation, the Kirjakkala Ironworks Village, Hotel Mathildedal and Hotel Mathildan Marina are only a short distance away.

Boats are rented by Natura Viva (naturaviva.fi) in Teijo Nature Center.

Fisheries management

Catch-sized rainbow trout is stocked every 3–4 weeks between May and September. During the winter season plantings are conducted once or twice.
