The middle course of River Iijoki 5573
This permit covers the running and quiet waters and rapids of the middle course of River Iijoki from Ohtaoja to Ervasti Bridge. The total length of the permit area is 57 km.
The most common catches in the area are sizable grayling and trout. The most common catch in the quiet sections is pike. The rapids in the middle section of River Iijoki are great for fly fishing for grayling, for example. The river's fish stock is managed with fry plantings of trout and grayling. There are several lean-to shelters and campfire sites in the area and anglers may also catch a breather at Räpättävänkoski hut.

Permits for 2024 become available on 2 April 2024 at 9 a.m.
In the middle course of River Iijoki angling permit area, the customer can choose between a validity period of 24 hours, 7 days or the entire season. The prices of angling permits are as follows:

Persons under 18 years of age can buy the angling permit at half price.
Persons under 15 years of age may fish under the angling permit and within the fishing quota of an adult belonging to the same party, without needing to purchase an angling permit of their own.
A family may purchase a family permit, which costs twice as much and has a fishing quota twice as large as an individual angling permit. A family consists of children under 18 years of age and their parents or legal guardians as well as married and common-law couples.

The middle course of River Iijoki angling permit area covers the waters between Jurmu and Ervasti which belong to Metsähallitus, to the Jurmu II and Jurmu IV joint ownership associations and to the Lassinniemi, Kellolampi, Pintamo and Korentojärvi joint ownership associations.
At Jurmukoski rapids there is a 650 metres long private water area on the western bank that extends halfway across the river that is not a part of the permit area.
Furthermore, the following water areas are protected:
- Lapinkoski-Honkakoski, about 300 m
- Tipparinne, about 600 m

What does the permit entitle the holder to
The middle course of River Iijoki angling permit 5573 grants the right for lure fishing with lure and fly.
Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are prohibited in rapids and running waters where there are migratory fish routes, regardless of whether you have an angling permit or not.
Purchasing other Metsähallitus' angling permits does not entitle you to fish in this permit area.
Watercraft
The use of a boat or canoe for fishing is permitted. The use of an outboard motor is only permitted in the quiet sections of the river.
Catch quotas
Catching more than one trout or five (5) graylings during a 24-hour period is prohibited in this permit area.
There is no catch quota limit for other fish species.
Catch sizes and protection periods
The following catch sizes and protection periods for fish species are in effect for this permit area:

Anglers must observe the catch sizes and protection periods specified in the Fishing Decree for other fish species.
Water temperature has a significant impact on the survival of salmonids after they are released. When water temperatures approach +20 °C, you should use judgement before you decide to fish for salmonids. In waters warmer than this, fishing for salmonids should be avoided. In such situations, it is advisable to focus on species that are more resistant to heat, such as zander, pike and perch. See guidelines for responsible fishing.
