The Silesjuuhâ / Silisjoki rental hut is located along the marked trail in the demanding wilderness area of Kaldoaivi on the shore of Lake Opukasjärvi, by the mouth of River Silisjoki. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. River Näätämöjoki is one of the most popular salmon fishing rivers in Finland. Its headwaters, in particular, are also excellent for grayling fishing. The wilderness character of River Näätämöjoki creates a fine atmosphere for visitors. At this river, which is located far away from roads, you will be able to fish in tranquil wilderness. In addition to the old, atmospheric log cabin, there is also a spacious sauna by the shore. Please note that there is a quota for the number of fishing licences to be sold for River Näätämöjoki.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.
Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.
Tip: If you reserve huts for multiple trips, make separate orders for each trip. This way, you can choose to pay for each trip's reservation only 14 days before the start of the reservation. Changes won't be made to reservations made from May 5, 2025.
Ensure a safe trip to the hut. Read the checklist.

Every fishing and hunting area and hut has a page with a map window that shows the location of the destination. In case of permit areas, you can see the borders of the area. Did you know that you can choose what and how information is displayed on the map?
The closest village is Sevettijärvi 14 km, and there is a grocery store in Näätämö village.
The closest neighbour is at a distance of 200 m.
Drive to the village of Sevettijärvi and carry on for about 1 km towards Näätämö, and turn to the left to "Ahvenjärvi". Drive to the starting point of the Pulmankijärvi Trail, from where the remaining stretch to the hut is about 10 km. On foot, the distance from the village of Sevettijärvi to the hut is about 14 km. The most common way of travelling to the hut is by flying to the adjacent Lake Opukasjärvi, from where the walking distance to the hut is about 1.7 km. By boat (which is to be found by the hut), the distance is about 1.2 km.
When boating in the area, please be particularly cautious as there are rocks and shoals in River Silisjoki and Lake Opukasjärvi.
In winter, you can travel to the hut along the snowmobile track.
Read more about the area and more detailed arrival instructions on Nationalparks.fi.
A sauna, a rowing boat (boating vests), a dry toilet, a root cellar and a campfire site.
The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a stove, a fireplace and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
A gas stove (incl. an oven) in the kitchenette.
There is no refrigerator, but a root cellar. You can bring ice from ice stations.
There is no running water in the hut.
Drinking water can be taken from the river. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested annually. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).
The main cabin has room for 6 people, 3 bunk beds, a convertible sofa, a camp bed and mattresses, blankets and pillows.
Please bring your own bed linen or a sleeping bag.
A shoreside sauna including a spacious sauna and a bedroom. In the bedroom, a folding wooden bed for 1‒2 persons. A stove.
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
The hut is located in a reindeer herding area, take into account the free-grazing reindeer and keep your dog on a leash.
If branching off from the snowmobile track onto the lakes (ice-fishing), a cross-country traffic permit is required. You can buy the permit from Eraluvat.fi. Note! Applications for off-road traffic permits are considered and processed within 10-15 working days.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
