Reindeer herding

Always make sure you are not disturbing the reindeer herding. Reindeer and reindeer herding need to be taken into account especially when hunting with a dog. Please read the instructions on page Hunting in Northern Finland before your hunting trip.

  • Up-to-date information on reindeer herding: porotyot.fi (in Finnish). Please note that not all reindeer herding cooperatives use the service.

Border zone

This permit area is limited to the border zone in the east, where hunting is prohibited. Pay particular attention to letting the dog go near the border zone. Stop and catch the dog immediately if it moves towards the border when chasing game. A permit is always required for visiting the border zone. Further information on applying for a permit can be found on the Finnish Border Guard's website (raja.fi).
