Jatkonsalmi Teräväpää is a log hut in Hossa National Park by Lake Jatkonjärvi. The hut is well suited for company recreational days, training and camp activities even for larger groups. Teräväpää has two rooms, a living room kitchen and a dining/meeting room. The hut has electric lights, electric heating, indoor toilets and a fireplace. Teräväpää is not an accessible rental hut. The Pääpirtti hut is located in the same yard.

A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

Arrival instructions

  • After the Hossa Visitor Centre, drive along Jatkonsalmentie Road for about 4 km. The road ends at the Jatkonsalmi yard. Teräväpää is the smaller red log building.

  • Note: different map/navigation programs may direct the arrival to the hut incorrectly. Please verify the hut's location and route on the map.

  • Distances: Hossa Visitor Centre 4 km, the village of Hossa 9 km and Juntusranta about 36 km. The closest neighbour is located in the same yard.

Yard

  • The yard has a shoreside sauna (electrical stove, showers), a barbecue shelter, a smoking oven, a boat, an outdoor campfire site and car outlets, all of which are in shared use with the Pääpirtti rental hut.

  • There's a good swimming beach in the yard.

Keys

  • Hossa Visitor Centre, Jatkonsalmentie 6, 89920 Ruhtinansalmi.  

  • When collecting the key, the customer must present the receipt of the paid hut rent.

  • The key must be returned to its collection point.

  • Keys are not delivered by post.

Facilities

Heating and lighting

  • The hut has electric heating and also a fireplace and firewood. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.

  • The hut has electric lighting.

Cooking

An oven/cooker, a refrigerator‒freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave oven, a coffeemaker and basic tableware for 12 people.

Drinking water

Drinking water comes from the tap.  

Staying overnight

  • Six bunkbeds, mattresses, blankets and pillows.

  • Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.

  • Hossa Visitor Centre rents out linen.

Sauna

Sauna is in the yard. More detailed instructions can be found in the hut folder.

Toilet

There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

Other things to keep in mind

  • The hut will not be pre-heated before the beginning of the booking period.

  • Please clean the hut before you leave.

Fishing and hunting

Safety

  • Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.

  • There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
