Every fishing and hunting area and hut has a page with a map window that shows the location of the destination. In case of permit areas, you can see the borders of the area. Did you know that you can choose what and how information is displayed on the map?
The hut is accessible only by foot or by skiing. Use of motor vehicles in the area is prohibited.
In summer the hut is along the UKK trail. There is no marked winter trail going to the hut.
A popular starting point for Takkaselkä when coming from Salla direction in summer is Tuntsan Pubi (Tuntsan ja Naruskan Tunturilomat Oy, tel. +358 400 449 649). The UKK trail continues northeast from there, arriving after 24 km to Takkaselkä hut.
The shortest way to the hut is from Auermavaarankuusikko, 18 km north from Naruskajärvi, close to Pirunkirkko. There is space for a few cars in the crossing, and distance to the hut is about 10 km.
The official road ends at Naruskajärvi, and this is the furthest point where the road is maintained in winter. Please check carefully that your car is not parked on the way of a snowplow.
The roads from Naruskajärvi towards Tuntsa are forest roads and can be in poor condition.
In summer, there are several possible starting points from Savukoski direction, close to Tulppio. You can get by car to Tulppionkaitavaara, to the north part of Turjalaiset or Ahmatunturi.
The roads are forest roads and can be in poor condition.
In winter, the road is maintained to Ainijärvi, 15 km further from Tulppio, where the road ends. Please check carefully that your car is not parked on the way of a snowplow.
A dry toilet and a wood shed.
The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a stove and there is firewood in the wood shed for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
Solar panel electricity, which is dependent on weather conditions (main switch in the hallway, swith off upon leaving the hut).
We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
Gas stove and necessary cooking utensils, tableware for 6 persons.
Bring your own utensils.
There is no running water in the hut.
Water is taken from a brook, duckboards from the hut. Boil water before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
A shared rental hut is a shared overnight accommodation where hikers sleep in the same space, usually shoulder-to-shoulder in bunk beds.
A wood heated sauna inthe same building. The sauna key can be found inside the hut, always return it to its place after use. Please note that it takes some time before the sauna is properly warm.
Remember to empty all the water containers and buckets before you leave. This is important especially in winter time as they will break if water freezes in them.
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
There are no accessible services in the hut.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Please do not leave anything, especially food in the hut. Leftover food can attract rodents and insects.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there may be some areas without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
