In summer and autumn, from the village of Luosto, from the starting point of Luostonportti, it is about a 7 km walk to the hut, going counter-clockwise along the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail marked with green squares. From Luostonloma, near the Torvisen Maja café, the walking distance to the hut is about 6 km, using the trail going around the Ukko-Luosto Fell, and the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail, which diverges 2.4 km after the Torvisen Maja. Yrjölä rental hut is about 200 m away of the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail, there is a signpost and a one-way path to the hut.
In spring floods can prevent access to the hut.
There is no winter trail to the hut.
From Highway 4 between Rovaniemi and Sodankylä, the road no. 962 turns towards Pyhä-Luosto. 10 km after the turn, along the road is the Luostonloma and Torvisen Maja parking area. In the Luosto village center you may leave your car in the large parking area at the foot of the ski slopes, or in the adjacent smaller parking area next to the trail starting point of Luostonportti.

The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a wood stove for heating. There is firewood in the wood shed. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
A gas stove and necessary cooking utensils (incl. coffee pot, pot, frying pan).
Bring your own utensils and tableware.
There is no running water in the hut.
Drinking water has to be carried in or taken from the spring about 300 m from the hut (a signposted duckboard trail diverges from the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail to the water point). The brown water from the small brook near the hut (signposted from the corner of the sauna building) is suitable for washing. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).
The hut has one bed downstairs, but the main sleeping area is located on the loft.
