The Hirvashauta shared rental hut is located along marked Nuortti Hiking Trail (summer trail) in the demanding wildernesslike National Park of Urho Kekkonen. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The nearest shops and restaurants are located in Savukoski. The hut was built in 1985. In the same building there is an open wilderness hut and a drying room.
A shared rental hut is a reservable place for an overnight stay where you can book a paid bed for 1–2 nights.
Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.

The reservation day begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.

The use of the hut and other structures for business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus. Learn about transfer of rights of use (metsa.fi).
The current permanent campsite has been designed and implemented in cooperation between Metsähallitus and the Finnish Scouts Association. The Scouts have an annual priority booking right to reserve the campsite facilities for the following year during the period 1.5.-31.10. After the priority booking period, anyone can make reservations for the campsite.

The Eräluvat.fi website and the Eräluvat webshop have been merged and renewed. As a result of the update, old customer accounts are no longer be available. Paid permits continue to be valid.
You can get to the hut on foot or by skis from several starting points. The distance from Tulppio is ca.16 km. The hut can be reached only in summer from Haukijärvenoja parking area (ca. 5,4 km), from Hirvashauta parking area (ca. 2,5 km).
There is bridge by the River Nuorttijoki at Kolsankoski.
The wading cable is located by the River Nuorttijoki some 300 metres upstream from the Kärekeoja hut. The wading cable will be removed for the winter and reinstalled after the spring floods. We will inform about the installation of the wading cable on the Urho Kekkonen National Park's website (Nationalparks.fi).
The closest huts are the Mettopalo open wilderness hut, the Saiho open wilderness hut, and the Kärekeoja open wilderness and shared rental hut.

A campfire site, a dry toilet and a woodshed.
You can camp by the campfire sites.
The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.

There is no running water in the hut.
Household water is taken from the river Nuorttijoki. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Two bunk beds with extendable lower bunks, mattresses, pillows, and quilts.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
A shared rental hut is a shared overnight accommodation where hikers sleep in the same space, usually shoulder-to-shoulder in bunk beds.
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
