Vongoiva
Vongoiva rental turf hut is located in a wilderness zone of the Urho Kekkonen National Park. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The nearest shops and restaurants are located in Saariselkä and in Ivalo. Built in 2015–2016, the hut is located at the spot where the two last branches of the River Vongoivajoki meet.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.
Reservations
The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and end at 12 noon.
Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut.
The use of huts and other structures in business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus (metsa.fi).

Arrival instructions
You can get to the hut on foot or by skis from several starting points. The distance from Kemihaara ca. 41 km. The hut can be reached only in summer from Raja-Jooseppi suspension bridge (ca. 41 km).
The route includes some river crossings. There are bridges by the River Suomujoki at Aitaoja, Kotaköngäs, and Porttikoski and by the River Luttojoki at Raja-Jooseppi.
The closest huts are the Anterinmukka open wilderness hut and the Hammaskuru open wilderness and shared rental hut.

Yard
A campfire site, a dry toilet, a woodshed and a root cellar.
You can camp by the campfire sites.
Keys
The key is in a key cabinet on the hut wall. The cabinet is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail at the time of booking.
Facilities
Heating and lighting
The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
Cooking
A gas stove, a saucepan, a coffee pot and a frying pan.
Drinking water
There is no running water in the hut.
Household water is taken from the river Vongoivajoki. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Staying overnight
A sleeping platform, matresses and pillows.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
Toilet
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
Waste disposal
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

Please clean the hut before you leave.
Safety
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
