Boazojávri / Porojärvi
Boazojávri / Porojärvi rental hut is a demanding wilderness destination. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. Rental hut includes two small cabins situated in the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, in the southeastern shore of Lake Porojärvi. The hut is known as a holiday destination for the ex-president of Finland, Urho Kekkonen. The hut is situated about 45 km from the nearest road and the village of Kilpisjärvi. Separate wood heated sauna by the shore.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.
Reservations
The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and end at 12 noon.
Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut.
The use of huts and other structures in business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus (metsa.fi).

Arrival instructions
Along the main road E8 to Kilpisjärvi.
In Kilpisjärvi village there isa shop, a fuel distribution point and restaurants. It is 120 km to Hetta village, the centre of the municipality of Enontekiö.
From Kilpisjärvi 45 km in the terrain by hiking or skiing. The hut is located on the southeastern shore of Lake Porojärvi, in the place, where begins the River Poroeno.
Norkalott Trail goes about 11 km west from the Porojärvi rental hut.
There is no marked trail all the way and it is challenging terrain to navigate to the rental hut.
An off-road traffic permit is required for travelling to the hut by a snowmobile. Read more about off-road traffic on Eraluvat.fi. Note: as the processing time of off-road permits is two weeks, you should submit your application well ahead of time.
Boazojávri / Porojärvi open wilderness hut is situated about 1 km from the rental hut.

Yard
A sauna, a dry toilet and a woodshed outside near the huts. A boat.
Keys
The key is in a key cabinet on the hut wall. The cabinet is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail at the time of booking.
Facilities
Heating and lighting
Both huts have a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
The solar power system is currently not in use.
Cooking
The old UKK cabin has a gas stove/oven, pots and coffee pots.
The adjacent maintenance hut, built in 1998, has a kitchenette and a gas stove/oven.
Drinking water
There is no running water in the hut.
The lake shore is approximately 50 metres away from the hut. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Staying overnight
The old UKK cabin has two bunk beds, matresses, blankets and pillows.
The new cabin also has two bunk beds, matresses, blankets and pillows.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
Sauna
Separate wood heated sauna by the shore.
The sauna is reserved for the guests in the rental cabin and cannot be used by other hikers.
Toilet
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
Waste disposal
There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
Recycling point can be found at Kilpisjärvi Visitor Centre.
Other things to keep in mind
The hut is located in a reindeer herding area, take into account the free-grazing reindeer and keep your dog on a leash.
Firewood may only be used for heating the hut, not for outdoor fires.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Safety
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
