Trap permit area

7001 Upper Karelia and Upper Savonia

The permit covers state-owned water areas in the municipalities of Nurmes, Valtimo, Rautavaara, Juuka, Sonkajärvi, Vieremä and Polvijärvi, and also in the southern parts of City of Kajaani. Perch, pike, burbot and cyprinids are natural fish species in this area. Most of the lakes in the trap permit area are stocked with whitefish.

Fishing period

1 January – 31 December. Net and fyke net fishing are prohibited from 1–20 June in Lake Laakajärvi within the municipalities of Sotkamo and Sonkajärvi. Net and fyke net fishing are prohibited from 1–14 June In Lake Kiltuanjärvi.

Restrictions

Only local residents of the Rautavaara municipality are allowed to trap fish in Tiilikkajärvi National Park. Check the restrictions carefully in the permit terms and water area directory.

Permits needed for fishing

Trap fishing in this permit area always requires a trap permit. You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023.

In Lake Kiltuanjärvi and Lake Raudanvesi, this trap permit entitles the holder to fish in Metsähallitus water areas and Jyrkkä co-operative water areas. In Lake Kuohattijärvi this trap permit entitles the holder to fish in Metsähallitus water areas and Nurmes co-operative water areas.
