Kuhmo trap permit covers over 22,000 hectares of small lakes and state-owned water areas in bigger lakes.

Permits needed for fishing

Trap fishing in this permit area always requires a trap permit. You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023.

Fisheries management

The Kuhmo trap permit area consists of regulated waters that the power company stocks with whitefish, trout, pike-perch and grayling to compensate for the negative impacts of regulation.

Metsähallitus also stocks the waters outside the regulation area with one-summer old whitefish fry.
