Bihčosjávri / Pitsusjärvi shared rental hut is a demanding wilderness destination. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The hut is located on the eastern shore of Lake Pitsusjärvi (Bihčosjávri), located on a rocky shoreline hill in an open fell landscape. Pitsusköngäs (Bihčosgorži), one of Finland's largest free-fall waterfalls, is located approximately 4 kilometres south of the hut. The hut is an approximately 42 km hike or ski from Kilpisjärvi.

This destination is suitable for those who are experienced in hiking in challenging conditions and wish to immerse themselves in true wilderness. The ski touring season runs from March to April, while the recommended hiking season is from early July to early September. The building also includes an open wilderness hut that accommodates 10 people.

A shared rental hut is a reservable place for an overnight stay where you can book a paid bed for 1–2 nights.

Waste disposal

There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

  • Recycling point can be found at Kilpisjärvi Visitor Centre.

Other things to keep in mind

  • The firewood should only be used for heating the huts. Making campfires outdoors is prohibited if the hut does not have an official campfire site.

  • Please clean the hut before you leave.

Safety

  • Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.

  • There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.

  • Read more about the area and its current information at Nationalparks.fi.
