Jogašjávri (Jogasjärvi) rental hut is a demanding wilderness destination. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. Small and cosy hut is located in the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area on the southern shore of lake Jogašjávri. Jogašjávri (Jogasjärvi) rental hut is situated about 36 km from the nearest road and the village of Kilpisjärvi. Jogašjávri (Jogasjärvi) open wilderness hut is located near the rental hut.

A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

Reservations

The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and end at 12 noon.

Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut.

The use of huts and other structures in business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus (metsa.fi)

Arrival instructions

  • Along the main road E8 to Kilpisjärvi, from where 36 km on a roadless and partly non-marked terrain by walking or skiing.

  • In Kilpisjärvi village there is a shop, a fuel distribution point and restaurants. It is 200 km to Hetta village, the centre of the municipality of Enontekiö.

  • Norkalott Trail goes about 7 km west from the Jogasjärvi rental hut.

  • There is no marked trail all the way and it is challenging terrain to navigate to the rental hut.

  • An off-road traffic permit is required for travelling to the hut by a snowmobile. Read more about off-road traffic on Eraluvat.fi. Note: as the processing time of off-road permits is two weeks, you should submit your application well ahead of time.

Yard

  • There is a wood shed, a dry toilet and recycling point on the grounds.

  • There is no sauna or boat.

Keys

The key is in a key cabinet on the hut wall. The cabinet is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail at the time of booking.

Facilities

Heating and lighting

  • The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.

  • The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.

  • The solar power system is currently not in use.

  • Bunk beds, mattresses, blankets, and pillows.

  • Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.

Toilet

There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

Other things to keep in mind

  • The hut is located in a reindeer herding area, take into account the free-grazing reindeer and keep your dog on a leash.

  • Firewood may only be used for heating the hut, not for outdoor fires.

  • Please clean the hut before you leave.

Safety

  • Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.

  • There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
