Lounatkoski
The Lounatkoski rental hut is a traditional log-driving cabin built in the 1930s on the shore of the Lounatkoski Rapids onto a small island formed by the river in Hossa National Park. The island can be reached by a trail bridge. The Lounatkoski rental hut is protected as a building heritage site. The cottage is very simple and has no electricity or running water. The sauna is in a separate building.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

Arrival instructions
Driving Instructions
After the Hossa Visitor Centre, drive along Jatkonsalmentie Road for about 4 km and turn to the right. Drive for about 2 km, and the parking area is located on the left side of the road. The walking distance from the parking area to the hut is 200 metres.
Note: different map/navigation programs may direct the arrival to the hut incorrectly. Please verify the hut's location and route on the map.
Distances: Hossa Visitor Centre 6 km, the village of Hossa 11 km and Juntusranta about 38 km.
Read more about the area and more detailed arrival instructions on Nationalparks.fi.
Yard
There is a campfire site and a smoker box in the courtyard. You have no neighbours near the hut.
There is a decent beach for swimming in front of the hut.
There is also a boat with life jackets on the shore that is included in the hut rental.
Attractions include the rushing Lounatkoski Rapids and the Lounatkoski mill on the same island as the rental cottage. Lounatkoski itself is a fishing site so you might meet some fishers there.
Keys
The key is in a key cabinet on the hut wall. The cabinet is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail at the time of booking.
Facilities
Heating and lighting
The hut has a wood-burning stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
Cooking
Gas stove (no oven), root cellar (the root cellar is not very cold, we recommend taking dry and freeze-fried foods), basic cookware and cooking equipment for six people.
We recommend bringing your own portable stove.
Drinking water
There is no running water in the hut.
Drinking water can be obtained from the nearby rapid. The rapid water must be boiled before using it for food. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).
If necessary, you can get drinking water from the visitor centre.
Staying overnight
Three bunkbeds, beddings for six persons.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
Hossa Visitor Centre rents out linen.
Sauna
The sauna is in a separate building in the same courtyard.
More detailed instructions can be found in the hut folder.
Toilet
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
Waste disposal
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
Other things to keep in mind
The hut will not be pre-heated before the beginning of the booking period.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Fishing and hunting
Small game hunting area 5602 surrounding the national park. A licence is required.
Safety
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
