Yard
The yard area is shared with other hikers.
There is also a wilderness hut, a day-use hut and an observation tower right next to the rental hut.
Keys
The key is in a key cabinet on the hut wall. The cabinet is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail at the time of booking.
Facilities
Heating and lighting
The hut has a round fireplace and two stoves and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
During the winter, you should heat ONLY the kitchen and the second bedroom if you have reserved the cabin for a small group. This way, the living room heats up faster and less wood is consumed. Close the door of the bedroom that is not heated to keep the heat in the rooms where you stay.
The hut has no electricity.
The hut has three battery-operated LED lanterns for lighting. Please bring your own D-size batteries! We also recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
Cooking
A gas stove and crockery.
When the gas bottle runs out, a replacement gas bottle can be found in the hut.
Drinking water
There is no running water in the hut.
The water quality of the well is not monitored. Water from the well can be used for washing the dishes. Do not drink!
Staying overnight
Bunk beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
Toilet
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
A dry toilet for shared use.
Waste disposal
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
Other things to keep in mind
There are locked carts at the parking area for transporting belongings. The same code is used for the cart lock as for the hut. Remember to mix up the numbers after use.
Pets are allowed but do not let the pets sleep in the beds.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Safety
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
