Check additional information and opening hoursThe Vášku / Vaskojoki rental hut is located in a wilderness zone of the Lemmenjoki National Park. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The log cabin is suited for winter use and was built by the Finnish Air Force's Lapinmaja Foundation in 1966. The hut was renovated at spring 2021. The same building houses an open wilderness hut, and there is a sauna in the yard (locked and not in use for now).
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.
This hut can only be rented through the below-mentioned company.
Lemmenjoen lomamajat Oy Ahkuntupa (ahkuntupa.fi), Njurgalahti Village.
Available for rent all year round.
The hut can be reserved for up to one week at a time by the same person.
The hut is situated at the mouth of the River Puordnajoki which flows from the south into the River Vaskojoki. It is on the east bank in the southwesternmost cape at the mouth of the river.
The road to Njurkulahti and Lemmenjoki (road number 9551) branches off from the Inari-Kittilä road (road number 955). You can drive all the way to the village of Njurkulahti, from where you continue on foot or by skis to the hut.
There are no public transport connections from Inari to Njurkulahti. In the summer, a route boat also departs from Njurkulahti to Kultahamina, from where it is still about 20 km to the hut.

The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
A gas stove and tableware.
There is no running water in the hut.
Household water is taken from the river Puordnajoki. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).
Bunk beds, mattresses, pillows and quilts.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
