The permit covers a total of 8,000 hectares of state-owned water areas in the municipality of Nurmes, including many small lakes and ponds. Perch, pike, burbot and cyprinids are natural fish species in this area. Also pike-perch, vendace and whitefish are natural fish species in the waters of Lieksanjoki area. Many of the lakes in the trap permit area are stocked with whitefish.

A total of 186 hectares of state-owned water area in Lake Pielinen near to Koli National Park is also included in this permit area.

Special features of the area: In Lake Rekusenjärvi and Lake Naarajärvi, this trap permit entitles the holder to fish in Metsähallitus water areas as well as co-operative water areas.

Permits needed for fishing

Trap fishing in this permit area always requires a trap permit. You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023.

The permit does not entitle the holder to fish in waters within the frontier zone or in Lake Iso Hietajärvi, which is located within the Patvinsuo National Park.
